Dipavali Part 1: Resources for the Journey of Life

Yā devī sarva bhūteṣu tuṣṭi rūpeṇa saṃsthitā । namastasyai ॥ namastasyai ॥ namastasyai namo namaḥ ॥

To the divine Goddess who resides in all existence in the form of nourishment and true satisfaction, we bow to her; we bow to her; we bow to her, continually we bow, we bow.

The Vedic Calendar & Dīpāvalī

The Vedic Calendar is designed to support your life journey.. This calendar is rooted in intricate understanding of the cycles- seasons, astrological configurations, moon phases, so that we can attune to cosmic reality to discover happiness at every level – manifest and absolute.

Dīpāvalī {or Diwali} is a sacred and celebratory time in the vedic calendar in which we honor Lakshmi Devī, the divine feminine principle of abundance and resources.

This joyful time that celebrates abundance, resources, victory, light, health, women’s well being and wisdom.

Each day of this 5-ish day festival is dedicated to some key elements that are part of life’s journey… the themes of these five days include:

Cultivating reverence to Lakshmi Devī, and true abundance in all of its forms – nature, good health, the victory of life over death and of good over evil, prosperity, and true wisdom.

Resources for the Spiritual Journey of Life

When you make life’s journey a spiritual journey, you are choosing growth, and maturation.

You are choosing to commit to dharma, truth, and to facing life with openness.

This commitment requires time and resources to support you along the way.

Life is full of success and failure, boons and curses, and you require resilience and resources to matured by life, rather than defeated or depleted by it.

Dīpāvalī is a time to appreciate, gather and build your inner and outer resources for life’s journey.

This video is a clip of teaching Chapter 9 of the Bhagavad Gitā in the Nectar of the Gita program.

What are your resources?

Dīpāvalī is a wonderful time to consider what are your inner and outer resources? What virtues, boons and blessings can you appreciate, cultivate, lean into and build on?

Take time to contemplate your resources, place symbols of them on your altar, journal about them, or discuss with a close friend or advisor in your life.

Your resources may include:

  • Innate qualities such as intelligence, openness, sensitivity, humor, kindness, sensitivity, generosity
  • Strengths like commitment, steadfastness, stability, loyalty, or a special skill set
  • Boons like health, strong constitution, resilience
  • Outer resources such as money, partnership, beloved pets, friendships, teachers, teachings
Resources are virtues that are innate in you, skills you have developed, or blessings you have received in your life.

*For those who do ritual pūja, and Lakṣmī mantras to the feminine divine, as were taught during Navarātri, this is a wonderful time to re-invigorate or deepen those those practices. You can do a longer practice on Nov 3 or Nov 4.
