Hands, Ritual and Action

The Hands are Intrinsic to this Tradition

Perhaps you have heard or learned that we never handle a māla nor make ritual offerings with the index finger. And as you can imagine, there is a deep reason for this.
There are hidden reasons behind every “rule” in this tradition that reveals deeper truths about the human experience. Take a listen…
It is absolutely incredible how frequently the hands are referenced in the Veda Tradition. From mudras of yoga, to teachings about action in the Bhagavad Gītā, to mantras and invocations to the rules of ritual and the magic of divination.

Even modern science has discovered that hands are profoundly connected to your brain and hold the mysteries of your past, present and future.
Your hands are the tools of your action. With your hands you accomplish your will, or offer yourself as an instrument of the divine.
Your hands can be wielded to hold, to harm, to help… your hands can make humble offerings or can grab opportunities.
A tool I have suggested to many students and clients over the years when making decisions or envisioning the future, is to imagine what your hands are doing.
Think about one year from now, or even 5 years from now. It can be overwhelming to imagine your whole life. Try to focus in and imagine, “what are my hands doing?”
One of the rituals I find helpful for imbuing the day with divine hands is to make a prayer to the hands first thing in the morning.
The very first thing I gaze at is my hands… the very first words I speak is an invocation and installation of the divine in my hands.
You can try it. Wake up, and make a prayer to your hands, that the divine live in your hands and that your hands be instruments of the divine throughout the day.
Your hands hold the codes of your karma.
Considered to be a “darpana”, your hands are a mirror that reveal potential setbacks and successes. Understanding & relating with your hands puts you in good relationship with your ability to build your luck in life!
Each finger, each segment, mound, valley and line of your hands is meaningful. Even an injury or wound can tell us something about the conditions of your karma.
I’ll be teaching several sacred practices for your hands, along with many practical tools for reading the hands inside “Hasta: Mystical Secrets in Your Hands”. We begin soon, and have room for you to join.
